Gina Lybarger (AKA Mrs. Bebe)
7th Grade English Language Arts
I graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Arts and Sciences, Physical Education.
I received my Master's Degree from National University in Instructional Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction. In my free time, I enjoy hiking Cowles Mountain, riding bikes at the beach, and spending time with my family and friends. I have been at Mueller Charter School since 1997 and love the students, staff and the community of Chula Vista!
8th Grade History & 8th Grade Science
My name is Omar Burruel. I am an eighth-grade history and science teacher at Mueller Charter Leadership Academy. This is my 16th year in teaching. I grew up in Chula Vista and graduated from the University of California, San Diego where I studied History. I got into teaching to help the youth of our community and help guide them toward a positive future. When I am not teaching, I spend my free-time gardening, camping with my family, listening to music, playing video games, and reading.
I look forward to getting to know all of you this school year.

Ms. Alexandria Green earned her B.A. from Chapman University in education and minor in dance. She is currently a graduate student at SDSU in pursuit of an M.A. in Education with a specialization in Critical Literacy and Social Justice. Since she joined the Mueller family in 2012, she has taught at both the elementary and secondary levels but feels uniquely at home working with middle school students. She is an art and travel enthusiastic (18 countries and counting!). Her must-read list includes Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane, Brain on Fire by Susan Cahalan, and The Memory Place by Mira Bartok (she's a sucker for a good memoir).
8th Grade Mathematics
I am originally from New Jersey, but I moved to California in 2nd grade. I grew up mostly in Claremont, California, a small college town east of Los Angeles. After high school I moved to San Diego to attend UCSD, where I graduated with a major in Psychology. I stayed at UCSD another year to study Education and graduated with a Masters in Education and my Teaching Credential. This will be my 5th year teaching, but my 1st year as a part of the MCLA team. I couldn't be happier to be a part of this family!
Coach Francisco Hermosillo7th & 8th Grade Physical Education
Being raised in Tijuana, I feel a close connection with many of our students who wear their heart on both sides of the border. It's a unique feeling and I understand the feeling...anything I can do to have our students have a successful educational experience while at Mueller/MCLA, count me in! After attending Southwestern College, San Diego State and National University, I earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I love my job! Helping MCLA's college bound students is very rewarding. Helping students break a sweat, and having them realize that through exercise, one can only benefit the body and mind.
On the personal side, I love spending time with my medicine, which are my grandsons Javi and Baltimore. I love playing golf whenever I have the chance. Also, I've coached high school baseball for the last 27 years at Montgomery HS.
7th Grade Science & 8th Grade Lab Science @ Living Coast Discovery Center
What living things are there in and around San Diego Bay? What special adaptations help them survive? How have they changed over time? These are the questions that fascinate me! I love science because science is being curious, wondering how our world works, and asking questions. For me, there is nothing better than hiking in nature and enjoying the amazing sights, smells, and sounds.
I received my B.A. degree from Humboldt State University, in the heart of the redwood forests of northern California, my J.D. degree from Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles, and my teaching credential from San Diego State University. I first started teaching at Mueller Charter School in 2000, and joined the MCLA team in 2007. In 2009, I helped co-found, and now coordinate the Nature Smart Studies Program at the Living Coast Discovery Center. What a great way to study science! Through our program, we emphasize hands-on learning in nature, community-based partnering and field study, and ways to give back through participation in service projects. When not teaching and exploring nature, I love being green, and when the opportunity arises, travelling! Did you know that I have been fortunate enough to spend time in over 70 countries worldwide? As far as education goes, I often tell young people two things: (1) get out on the road and get to know people and places, and (2) get out in nature and get to know plants and animals!
7th & 8th Grade Music
Ms. Lechusza Aquallo received her B.A. from Bard College, an M.F.A. in Cello Performance from Mills College, an M.A.T. from Longy School of Music at Bard College, and has completed five years of the UCSD Ph.D. program in Critical Studies and Experimental Practices. She is currently in her second year of implementing a new Instrumental Music program at Mueller Charter School. Ms. Lechusza Aquallo also continues her second year as the conductor for the Civic Youth Orchestra Intermediate String Ensemble in Escondido. Ms. Lechusza Aquallo is also a professional cellist and has performed with Orchestra Nova, the La Jolla Symphony, and has free-lanced in New York, the Bay area, and specifically San Diego for the past twelve years.

Hello Mustangs! My name is Ricardo Lopez and I am a Chula Vista native. I feel extremely grateful to be part of an amazing MCLA Team. I am thrilled to be returning to MCLA for my 15th year of teaching. For the first 8 years, I taught 6th grade Math in Las Vegas, Nevada. After relocated back to San Diego in 2009, I was hired at Mueller Charter School as a 4/5 teacher. Currently, I am teaching 7th grade math at MCLA. 7th Grade History & 8th Grade Science
Born and raised on the Central Coast of California, Joel Michel developed an appreciation for nature, agricultural ways, his Chicano heritage, family, and good barbeque. His faith, family and nation are close to his heart and direct his efforts. After graduating from the University of San Diego, he promptly began serving Chula Vista's westside community at Mueller Charter School. Blessed with the opportunity to serve a 2/3 multiage class, 6th grade, and now 7th grade for over a dozen years, Mr. Michel finds that his days are filled with joy and laughter. Every year offers him new occasions for growth and enjoyment. Go Dodgers! Go Raiders!
